State-of-the-art technology proved to be child's play for primary school pupils who took part in the IBM Robo Challenge.

The futuristic competition saw year five and six pupils, aged between nine and ten years-old, from eight primary schools in Lambeth, build 'Lego NXT Robot kits' to create and programme robots to pick up objects, turn, reverse - and even play music. In partnership with Lambeth City Learning Centre and IBM UK Clapham Youth Centre supported a number of primary schools and hosted Robo Camp during February Half term.

The schools that participated included: Boneville Primary School, Glenbrook Primary School, Holy Trinity CE Primary School, Kings Avenue Primary School, Henry Fawcett Primary School, Hitherfield Primary School, Walnut Tree Walk Primary School, and Archbishop Sumner Primary School.

The competition was made up of five tough pre-prepared challenges which included: 'Strictly Robo Dancing', 'Best Dressed Robot', 'Robo-Race', 'Rubbish Robots' (constructing a robot out of rubbish), and a final unseen challenge - 'Programming Under Pressure'. Each challenge winner won a Lego Robot Kit to take back to their school, with the overall winners who were announced this week, Archbishop Sumner Primary School, awarded two kits.
