Blenheim Gardens is the estate which is very close to the Clapham Youth Centre and the one which a good number of our users come from.
In the past a council estate it is now managed by the tenants through the Estate Management. It has inherited positive as well as negative sides of being a council estate. And this was the concern about the negative side through which our partnership was born.
The estate supports Clapham Youth Centre in running a programme for young residents and older people. This support allowed young people to have, in addition to our weekly programme, interesting outings together to places which otherwise they would not have been able to visit.
Over the past year of 2006 both juniors and teenagers enjoyed trips to theme parks, paint ball games, go-karting events, theatre visits as well as smaller trips to cinema, China Town ands ice skating.
The quality breaks enable us to raise the quality of lives of young people and build good relationships with them. A programme of education talks is run along with the outings.
We have plans for the senior residents as well. For instance the idea of a luncheon and bingo club has been around for a while.
The photographs below were taken by young people in the estate during the Summer play scheme 2006
