Young Parents Inclusion Project was launched early in 2006 after consultation with local parents with children under 5. It had two-fold purpose. One is to reach out local young parents with children, build up relationships with them and seek ways to meet their needs, as well as to create a young parents forum where they could exchange experiences and their know how in bringing up children.
The project was a very new undertaking for us and received a strong support from King's Acre Church through volunteers and the use of the church hall. We wanted to widen our age range as it is required by the Every Child Matters and try to build up an integral service when children could grow in the club from early years to adulthood and receive support here.
The project received its initial grant from the Clapham Park project and was supported by Lambeth Teenage pregnancy and parenthood unit. Now , with the Community Chest grant we have employed sessional project development worker for one year - Pa Winifred. There are now over 40 parents and carers registered with the project.
