The Wey Island Trust is a residential centre owned by three clubs in the Knights’ Association of Christian Youth Clubs, Clapham Youth Centre being one of them.

It is located in New Haw, Surrey, just within the M25.  It can be reached within one hour from Clapham.

Wey Island Trust is situated by the river Wey, on approx half an acre of land, surrounded on three sides by waterlogged ditches.  The base is accessible by car or mini-bus via a rough track across fields.  The area is fenced off, but care must be taken to lock up completely each time you leave the site.

Accommodation

Sleeping: There are two dormitories, which can sleep 12 persons in each.  Bunk beds with mattresses and pillows are provided. (Please bring your own sleeping bag and pillowcase).

Kitchen: The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, fridge/freezer, microwave and toaster together with cooking utensils, plates, mugs and cutlery.  A fire blanket, brooms, mops, buckets and spin dryer are also provided.

Dining Area/Lounge: There are tables and chairs to seat up to 26 persons.  There is a table tennis table (Please bring your own bats and balls) and a pool table.  The dining area/lounge has a wood or coke-burning stove but please do not cut or chop the trees on the island for fuel.

Toilet Blocks (male and female): There are two blocks each containing toilets, basins and shower.

Lighting: Electricity is provided but is charged by the number of units used.  The meter will need to be read on arrival and departure and the readings recorded in the Log Book.  Please encourage everyone to bring a torch as once the lights are out it is extremely dark.

General Information

Calor Gas is provided for cooking and hot water.

Canoes and mountain bikes are available, but proper supervision by qualified persons is required.

The base does not have a resident warden, but Henry and Pam Snelling normally undertake weekly checks.  There is a Log Book to record the details of user groups and to note electricity used.  Please record details on arrival and departure.

There is no refuse collection, so all rubbish will need to be burnt or removed from site in plastic sacks.   It is up to each group to make sure the base is left clean and tidy for the next users.  Please bring your own plastic sacks.

There is no telephone on site, so it is advisable that groups bring their own mobile ‘phone.

Please drive slowly across the land to the island base and keep to the rough tracks.  There are some ditches by the fields!

Charges

There is no charge for the use of the base to the owner clubs as they pay a yearly maintenance charge.  However, the club will need to cover the cost of providing their own food and transport.

If you require any further information or wish to view the base, please contact Henry or Pam Snelling on 020 7274 8967 or 07956 415 881.
Wey Island is a non-profit making charity.
